Application
Step 1: Prep
Prep the hair by spraying Purify & Revive PRIME Demineralizing Spray generously throughout the hair, combing through for even distribution and allowing to sit for 3 minutes (no rinsing or shampoo required). This will diminish any hard water minerals prior to any chemical service.
Pro Tip
Minerals are found in 85% of household water which can cause lightener to puff and swell or color to take inaccurately.
Step 2: Section the Hair
Divide the hair into 5 sections to create a working guide by first parting from ear to ear. Divide the front half into two sections by taking a parting along the natural part, then divide the back into 3 equal horizontal sections.
Step 3: Teased Balayage
Beginning in the nape area, take a ½” horizontal parting no wider than a foil. Holding the ends tautly, place the fine side of your comb in the center of the hair and push towards the top teasing the hair once or twice. Place a foil underneath the section and apply the Lightening Formula to the remaining hair beginning your application in the center and feathering up lightly into the teased area.
Pro Tip
Tease the hair gently so it is not difficult to untangle. Lightener should be applied generously like icing on a cake or cream cheese on a bagel.
Process at room temperature checking every 5-10 minutes until you have reached a Level 10 Pale Yellow. Shampoo the hair with Color Protect Cleanse and towel-dry well.
Step 4: Tone to Set the Tone
Apply the toning formula quickly from roots to ends.
Pro Tip
Toning prior to a VIVIDS application neutralizes any remaining warmth to set the tone for cool, pastel results.
Process at room temperature for up to 5 minutes, rinse well and apply Silk Degrees Prep and Treat for 5 minutes to equalize the porosity after lightening and for more longevity of the VIVIDS application. Rinse and dry the hair completely.
Step 5: VIVIDS Application
Re-create the same sectioning as you did for the pre-lightening stage and apply the VIVIDS Formula 1 melting into the VIVIDS Formula 2 blending the transition point.
Pro Tip
Elevate the hair when melting two shades of VIVIDS and blend the transition point gently between your index and middle fingers for a seamless blend.
Process 30 minutes at room temperature. Rinse with cold water and high water pressure until the water runs clear. Then apply Color Protect Condition and rinse well.
Step 6: Style
Detangle the hair with PRAVANA’s Intense Therapy Leave-In Treatment. Cocktail PRAVANA’s Polish and Reunite with a few drops of Hydra Pearl Oil, starting your application at the ends moving to the top and comb through for even distribution. Blowdry the hair completely and apply another drop or two of Hydra Pearl Oil in the same manner before curling the hair with a 1-1/2” long barrel curling iron directing all curls from the front temples to the center back. Allow to cool and comb through.
