Color Block Toning Formulas

Diminish any minerals in the hair by applying Purify & Revive PRIME Demineralizing Spray allowing it to sit for 3 minutes while you mix your lightener—no shampoo or rinse required!

Step 1: Sectioning

Divide the hair into the PRAVANA standard 4 quadrants by taking a radial parting from behind the ear to behind the ear and a second parting from nose to nape isolating the fringe.

Step 2: Balayage

Beginning in the nape area take a diagonal back parting on each side to create a “V”. Utilizing a free-hand balayage technique and Lightening Formula 1, paint a “V” shape in each section. Continue working up the back of the head utilizing a 1” herringbone pattern alternating “V” and “W” shapes until you have a small triangle at the crown where you will take a horizontal section and paint a “W” shape. Moving to one side of the head utilizing the same free-hand balayage technique and Lightening Formula 2, take 1” diagonal back partings alternating painting “V” and “W” shapes with thicker lines around the hairline. Repeat on the other side.

Process up to 55 minutes at room temperature checking every 5 to 10 minutes until you reach a Level 10. Thoroughly cleanse the hair with PRAVANA’s Intense Therapy Cleanse, rinse and towel-dry. Detangle with PRAVANA’s Intense Therapy Leave-In Treatment.

Step 3: Shadow Root

Section the hair into the same 4 zones as in Step 1. Beginning in the nape taking 1” diagonal back sections, apply the Shadow Root formula dragging it down 2 inches scissoring down to blend. Continue in the same pattern moving up the back of the head gradually decreasing how much you drag down the Shadow Root to 1 inch at the crown. Moving to the sides, take 1” diagonal back sections and apply the Shadow Root dragging it down 1 inch scissoring down to blend and decreasing to ½ inch as you reach the part. Repeat on the other side.

Step 4: Color Block Toning

Starting again in the nape area take a horizontal section and apply Color Block Toning Formula 1 painting up to the Shadow Root without blending them together. Next take a diagonal back section on the left and apply Color Block Toning Formula 2 and a diagonal back section on the right applying Color Block Toning Formula 3 in the same manner. Continue working in a bricklay pattern up the back of the head alternating the formulas until you reach the crown. Moving to one side taking diagonal back sections, alternate applying the Color Block Toning formulas. Repeat on the other side.

Process at room temperature for 10 minutes. Cleanse and Condition with PRAVANA’s Color Protect regimen and style as desired.
