Application
Step 1: Prep the Hair
Prep the hair by spraying Purify & Revive PRIME Demineralizing Spray generously throughout the hair, combing through for even distribution and allowing it to sit for 3 minutes (no rinsing or shampoo required) to diminish hard water minerals prior to any chemical service.
Pro Tip
Minerals are found in 85% of household water which can cause lightener to puff and swell or color to take inaccurately.
Step 2: Section the Hair
Section the hair into the PRAVANA standard four quadrants by first taking a radial parting from behind the ear to behind the ear to divide the front from the back. Then take partings from nose to crown and crown to nape to create four sections.
Pro Tip
Twist each section and secure with a clip to keep them up and out of your way.
Step 3: Summer Balayage – Back
Beginning in one of the back quadrants take two diagonal back partings at the nape, one stitched (– — –) and one microstitched (- – -), and apply the Lightening Formula in a balayage fashion. Continue working towards the crown alternating a horizontal slice (______) with a horizontal macrostitch (—- —- —-). When you reach the crown, take 3 teased horizontal microstitched (- – -) sections alternating the balayage application patterns below. Mirror the same pattern on the other side.
Pro Tip
Alternating your stitching patterns and your balayage application creates natural dimension in the hair.
Step 4: Summer Balayage – Front
Moving to one of the front quadrants starting at bottom of the section, take two diagonal back partings, one stitched (– — –) and one microstitched (- – -), and apply the Lightening Formula in a balayage fashion. Continue working up to the parietal ridge with three partings, a horizontal slice (______), a horizontal macrostitch (—- —- —-) and a horizontal slice (______). In the top section take diagonal forward macrostitches (—- —- —-) ending with one diagonal forward micrositch (- – -) alternating the same balayage patterns as in Step 3. Mirror the same pattern on the other side.
Pro Tip
Apply your lightener “like cream cheese on a bagel” so that the hair is no longer visible to ensure even saturation.
Process up to 55 minutes checking every 5 to 10 minutes until you have reached a Level 8, cleanse the hair with PRAVANA’s Intense Therapy Cleanse, rinse and towel dry the hair.
Step 5: Toning
Apply the Toning Formula from roots to ends.
Process 5 minutes at room temperature. Cleanse and Condition with PRAVANA’s Color Protect regimen, rinse and style as desired.
